I own one of these marimbas and love it. The padauk makes a great xylophone tone in the higher ranges. The resonance in the lower ranges is quite good. I've played a padauk marimba with wider bars in a five octave range at Century Mallets in Chicago, the old Deagan factory, and it sounded pretty much the same as the Heartsong marimba I have in my studio, only it had an extra octave. I'd like to see Heartsong try a five octave version, though I know that tuning below C3 is a b-witch. It might be easier with padauk than rosewood, though.

I also wonder if Heartsong might consider doing a vibraphone. It could be cool.

Cheers,

Dave

Thanks Eric - fully agree. The microphone and studio we did the recordings in was not up to snuff for capturing the range. The mallets were also not a high quality mallet - we wanted to get audio up on the site quickly. We're looking to add recordings going forward.

We would love to add real-world customer recordings. We'll give props and a link for anyone interested...

Hey, I saw your instruments on ebay.
Your marimbas look wonderful. I have to say though I am sure you can get a better recording than that, the recording you have is all the plink of the mallet and hardly any resonance, I would attempt a different mic placement. I'm sure if you had a better, more full bodied recording you would sell even more than you already do.
